Markham, ON – On Friday evening, as the Markham Federation of Filipino Canadians (MFFC) were marking their 35th Anniversary, local MPP Logan Kanapathi formally congratulated the group on work being done thanks to receiving a $96,300 Capital grant from the provincial government’s Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF). The grant, awarded this summer, is helping to make needed capital upgrades to the community centre located on Denison Street.
“I am thrilled to see the Markham Federation of Filipino Canadians receive this significant grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation,” said Logan Kanapathi, MPP for Markham-Thornhill. “This funding will enable much-needed renovations and upgrades to their facility, ensuring a welcoming and safe space for our community members to gather and celebrate their culture. Supporting organizations like MFFC is essential in fostering a stronger, more vibrant, and inclusive Markham,” added Kanapathi.
The Capital grant will enable MFFC to replace the centre’s warped and cracked flooring with a high traffic quality flooring, replace its sagging and stained ceiling, install new, efficient lighting fixtures, do some interior painting, install handicap mechanisms for the doors and purchase equipment. The MFFC’s centre is widely used by the community for social events, sports activities, arts and cultural activities and milestone celebrations and the much-needed funding from OTF will get this community centre a big lift in extending its operational life for the people of Markham to enjoy for a very long time.
“Oh, what a fantastic grant received from Ontario Trillium Foundation on our 35th anniversary of existence in Markham,” said Arthur Canseco, Chairperson, MFFC. “The project will extend the operational life of the facility and will enable the MFFC organization to better serve all the members of the organization, the Filipino Community at large and other ethnic groups who use the facility”
“Whether it’s helping people learn new things, connect with their community, or simply have fun, organizations like the Markham Federation of Filipino Canadians deliver experiences that make a difference,” said Stan Cho, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Gaming. “That’s why grant support through the Ontario Trillium Foundation is so important. This funding will help ensure that it remains at the heart of the community for decades to come."
