On Sunday, July 1st, the Markham Federation of Filipino Canadians celebrated Canada Day at Milne Dam Conservation Park (8251 McCowan Rd). The well attended event was filled with children’s activities, the People’s Parade, international food and entertainment provided by people all over the GTA. This annual event is sponsored by the City of Markham and was once again emceed by Alan Bell.
The Kid’s Activity Zone took place between 3-6 PM, where activities such as balloon-making, air-brush tattoos and mascots, such as the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man were present. Children were never bored, as the ever-famous Doo Doo the Clown kept kids excited and laughing all day long. From 3-5 PM the park was closed for the People’s Parade where Markham Mayor Frank Scarpitti, Councilor Alex Chiu and other dignitaries were present. During this time the shuttle buses from Markville Mall were also put on hold.
The MFFC Youth Performing Arts Group ended their summer programme by entertaining the audience with Popular Hits by Bruno Mars, Madonna and Disney. Artists such as Daniela Di, Michelle White and Neon Dreams also kept the audience intrigued with different performances ranging from Electric Violin, Jazz, Gospel, Hip-Hop, and EDM. At 10 PM the event-filled day ended with a breath-taking view of fireworks.
