Sept 26, 2007, Markham Ontario - In what has become annual tradition the Markham Federation of Filipino Canadians will cap another successful year of operations with a celebration.  It will mark the 18th anniversary of its founding with a Dinner Dance to be held at the Thornhill Community Center on Saturday, October 13, 2007.

Dubbed “Fiesta Internationale” to project a festive atmosphere, the occasion promises a night of fun, dancing, fellowship, good food and entertainment. Guests are encouraged to come in the native costume of their favorite country- translation: Pinoys truly look sharp in Barong or Pinas dress, but you are just as welcome in Canadian, Hawaiian, etc. or other semiformal attire- with a festive mood or spirit of course.

Every year the MFFC Dinner Dance has become the occasion where Filipinos in Markham and neighboring areas get together for fellowship and camaraderie.  MFFC has been the rallying point for unity and sense of community that has earned a high level of respect for Filipinos, and pride among its community members.

In a message to those still not involved MFFC Chair Yoly Ladines said, “This is the time to join up and be counted, if you have just moved in the area or have just been busy settling down.”

Ms. Ladines stressed that coming together as a community force is the reason MFFC has been successful in any of its undertakings. Since its founding in 1989 it has helped build a more progressive and more tolerant Town of Markham. She added its achievements and contributions in building a better multicultural Canada still in fact has not been duplicated or has no comparison anywhere.

The active participation in MFFC of every Filipino resident in Markham and its many friends over the years makes it the strong organization that it is, according to Ms. Ladines. The annual Dinner Dance, more than a social occasion, is also a regular fund-raiser for MFFC and its Community Center and programs.

Thornhill Community Center is located at 7755 Bayview Ave. (north of John St.) in Markham. Cocktails and dancing start at 6:30 pm. Music will be provided by the popular Florence Sounds DJ Services. Catering is by well known Remely’s Fine Dining.
