MFFC Celebrates the Philippines and Canada 2022

Summer is looking very good for our MFFC members as Ontario begins to open up the province, with several festivals being hosted and lots of chances for our members to showcase their talents.

Alex Chiu - Banaag Award 2021 Recipient

On January 25, 2022, the Philippine Consulate General - Toronto announced that Alex Chiu (†)1 was chosen as a recipient of the 2021 Presidential Awards for Filipino Individuals and Organizations Overseas (PAFIOO) and awarded the Banaag Award 2021 posthumously.
Stemming from humble beginnings, Alex served his Markham community for 33 years as councilor for ward 8. During this time, the Markham Federation of Filipino Canadians (MFFC) was also established together with his wife Alicia Chiu and a small but very dedicated group of individuals who all shared the responsibilities of running the much respected and beloved organization. The work he has accomplished for more than 3 decades was unprecedented and has spanned not just Ontario but also to the Philippines. He is known to his peers as a man with few words but motivated to action. His wife, Alicia daughter, Cherrie Marie and son, Christopher (†)2, were steadfast supporters of all his projects.
MFFC Holds its 2021 AGM
December 11, 2021 - The Markham Federation of Filipino Canadians held their Annual General Meeting on December 11, 2021 via Zoom this year due to Covid-19. This is the second year the AGM has been held virtually.
The meeting was hosted by Ester Toribio and co-hosted by Arthur Canseco. After going through the agenda for the meeting, discussing the financial status of the MFFC, co-chairs annual report and announcing the 5 elected board members by acclamation, the meeting adjourned on a high note. The MFFC has re-elected the following members for a term of 3 years: Jane Avila, Myrna de Leon, Yolanda Ladines, Ramon Ombao and Ester Toribio. Art Canseco conducted the oath taking virtually. The MFFC wishes to congratulate the elected officers.
